Wedding Photography

I quite enjoy wedding photography, however due to a number of reasons I will no longer be actively promoting my services as a “Wedding Photographer” as such.  My reasons for no longer advertising my services are a wedding photographer are varied, but there are several key points that have lead to making this decision.  I will however still offer the wedding photography service to those who inquire but I will not be accepting more than one booking per month.

The growth of Brian Mangano Photography is pulling me in a number of different directions.  This calls into question the most basic of commodity; time.  When you think of what wedding photography entails, you quickly realise that it is highly time intensive.  For example, a five hour engagement may also include:

• An hour of sales and marketing activity, or more if you consider the contact you have with potential clients who do not select you as their photographer.
• Travel to and from the pre-wedding engagement, which can be up to two hours.
• Up to two hours for the pre-wedding engagement,
• Travel on the day of the wedding, which may be up to two hours.
• The five hour engagement itself.
• Around 10 hours for post-production image editing.

That’s 22 hours for a five hour engagement!  This is the more extreme example, however it is not an uncommon scenario.  As much as I enjoy wedding photography, I cannot continue to make this time investment on an ongoing basis and deliver exceptional quality and service across all lines of business.

Most importantly, and directly impacted by the time concerns, is quality.  Brian Mangano Photography is built around delivering a product of exceptional quality to its clients; irrespective of whether it be a fine art print or a commercial shoot.  By investing so much time and energy in delivering one wedding package, it may impact on the time I can dedicate to delivering other products and services.  I feel it is best to make this decision now, before it impacts on quality.

As a photographer I feel it is critical to continually develop and refine my skills across a range of disciplines.  Techniques utilised when taking portraits and landscapes, as well as creative vision required during commercial engagements should not be viewed as exclusively benefiting the discipline which they are most commonly associated with.  Allowing more time to explore and grow in these areas will only enhance the wedding photography services I deliver, ensuring future engagements where I am the wedding photographer will provide a more exclusive and unique experience for my clients.
